Tales from a 37yo married mom attempting to earn a PhD

1 note

This is how I knew I was officially admitted to the doctoral program! I received an official letter from the program weeks ago, but was patiently (kinda) waiting for the letter from the university. Back when I tried to be a PhD student in biology I had received a congrats from the guy I wanted to work with only to have it rescinded. 17 years later, I’m finally on my way to a PhD. This time in public administration.
I start in August with one class. I want to see how things go with my daughter (she’ll be in second grade), the hubby and work. That said, my boss at work is not only supportive, but was key to me finally getting off the fence and actually applying to the program.
I meet with my faculty advisor next week to discuss the program. I really hope people start registering for the class I want to take. So far there’s just one person! Yikes.
I also need to see if there’s anyway I can add a Gender & Women’s Studies concentration to this baby. Although since I’ve already got one of those attached to my bachelors and masters degrees, I fear I’ve taken most of the GWS classes!
And yes, this is what this Tumblr blog will be about. Watch as a 35-year-old married mom with a full-time job sets out to earn a PhD. I’m sure it will be entertaining.
